In brief
- PI measures the breadth and depth of participation, not just the size of a crowd.
- Its indicators are verified creators, active creators and participating platforms.
- A rise in platforms often comes before a rise in creators.
The Participation Index measures the breadth and depth of participation in the Sanaa Sanifu Economy. Its principal indicators are verified creators, active creators and participating platforms.
Breadth is how many. How many creators have been verified? How many platforms connect to the economy through S4? Breadth tells you whether the economy reaches widely or remains a small circle.
Breadth
- Creators verified
- Platforms connected through S4
- Shows whether the economy reaches widely
Depth
- Verified creators who are active this period
- Whether participation continues
- Shows whether participation is real
Depth is how much. Of the creators who are verified, how many are active in a given period? Depth tells you whether participation is real and continuing, or whether verification was a one-time event that left no trace.
Neither alone is enough. An economy with wide breadth and little depth is a registry, not a marketplace. An economy with great depth and little breadth may be healthy but fragile, dependent on a small number of participants.
| Indicator | Counts | Tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Verified creators | Everyone who has passed verification | Reach |
| Active creators | Those taking part in the period | Life |
| Participating platforms | Platforms connected to the economy | The doors people come through |
Platforms deserve particular attention. Participating platforms are the points through which creators reach the economy, so their number and variety shape who can take part. A rise in platforms often precedes a rise in creators.
The index answers one question — who is participating? — and it should be read alongside GCP. Participation that grows faster than production can be a sign of an economy still learning to convert presence into verified work.
